The issue I am going to be presenting for my fire project will be on how inmates are being brutally treated in their prison cells. My reasoning behind choosing this issue has to do with my belief, that no human should ever feel dehumanized. People should not have to be feeling like anyone can just go and see them in cells as if they’re there for advertisement for others.
I also chose this issue because there is not much awareness on the dehumanization of prisoners. I feel that if more people heard of the harsh treatment and brutality continuing not only in United States prisons, where some argue the worst abuse occurs, but all over the world, we can join with others and demand that officers be trained appropriately and held accountable for their actions to dignify even the prisoner.
I believe word should be spread on this so more people will be aware of what’s going on in prison cells. It should matter to everyone on the simple fact that some may have friends and family in prisons. We would want them to receive help instead of them getting tortured by officers there. I want to accomplish mainly awareness on this issue but most of all reduction on police abusing their just because they believe they can. We should all care about this issue regardless if we don’t have family or friends in prison. We have to stop and think that can be our father, mother, cousin, sister, and friend. If we were in the helpless position of their loved ones and having to see them wounded when we go visit them. I would want them to be changed for the better not feeling scared and helpless in their. This issue is important to me because, i put myself in their place and if i saw my loved one going through that i would want people to help. I haven’t personally had a loved one go in jail, but I have heard many cases of inmates getting beat up so bad. Every time i would hear a story like this I would be like ‘how is the even going on?’. It really got me thinking when I heard this happens so commonly. My main argument is that prisoners are human beings and should be treated with dignity, police officers should be held accountable for their abuse of power, thereby creating healthier relationships and a safe community of residents and officers.
