There are many examples of police officers that have been involved in cases where excessive force was used when detaining and incarcerating people. Many cases vary in many ways. Some cases go as far as police officers brutally beating and leaving people sometimes half dead due to the way in which officers act out of line. Other cases show how officers violate people’s rights and strip their dignity from them by making them perform dehumanizing acts. An example that depicts the way in which police officers abuse their authority is what happened to a young man in texas who was beat by deputy constable Jimmy Drummond for speeding. The beating left the young man with broken ribs. Aside from this his parents who were also in the car at the time that this was happening were dragged out of the car and kicked on the ground. The young man’s father was left with a bruised face.
The next example is of how officers dehumanize people by making them go through embarrasing moments for things that are as small as traffic violations. A good example of how this happens is the way in which David Eckert was anal probed in New Mexico for squeezing his buttocks. He was subjected to a series of test that included x-rays, digital anal penetration. All of this was because of him simply squeezing his buttocks.
These are two examples of the many cases that exist of how police officers abuse their power and treat the people who they are supposed to protect and serve.
