A norm that has been implied on many people is a sense of fear when seeing police officers rolling down the street or when they pull up behind your car. It is a feeling of discontent and fear. This is not the way that people are supposed to view their local police officers but many still due. This is because of the way in which officers tend to portray themselves to the people who live in these communities. Norms are standards that are put in place by people that are then followed by most everyone. An example of this for the issue that we are trying to convey is the way in which it is a norm or standard to always have a fear sensation when a police officer rolls behind you or looks over at you. This norm has been put in place because of the way that people have had all types of negative encounters with officers.
The next thing that is also implied with this are the different sanctions that are given to the subjects that are being negative when stopped or arrested. A sanction is something that gives binding force, like the way that police officers enforce the law. Some of the sanctions that are put into place by the police officers at times are brutal because they take the force that is given to them and take it to extremes. For example the way in which they decide whether or not people should be beaten or the amount of force that needs to be applied when dealing with a certain person and issue.
A value is something that is given importance by a certain someone or something. One of the values that is being broken when police officers are accused more and more of police brutality is the \bond that the community and the officers have with each other. The people of different communities only start to lose the value that police officers have when they are treating citizens without respect and without reaching out to stop the brutality that is being inflicted from the officers to the citizens. This is definitely a societal issue because it affects the way that people see those who are supposed to protect and serve. The norms then change in a negative way and more and more people become afraid of the things that the police can do.
